On 1 November 1928, the inauguration of the Gulf of Chantaco attended by 300 people attending some great Arnaud Massy, the first pro club and only French winner (still!) Of a Grand Slam tournament, Jean Gassiat Aubrey and Percy Boomer.
This golf course was the realization of a dream: that of Rene Thion de la Chaume, fencer Emeritus, international traveler who discovered Saint Jean de Luz and La Nivelle golf in 1922. He bought land and moors of several farms, including Etcheverria, Urchabaleta, Kantier, Mochobaita, and Coyoénia Chantacoénia. This firm, whose original name is a corruption of Santiago de Compostela, recalling the way, gave its final name in golf.
